Sanctuary in the Heart of Ocala

While Ocala is known as the “Horse Capital of the World,” Cypress Valley Farm Inc. 501c3 stands out as a unique sanctuary where history and horsemanship meet. Owned and led by Ashley Culbreth, the farm has become a steady presence for riders, students, and horses of all kinds. Ashley’s connection to these animals began long before the farm existed, shaped by a family tradition and decades spent immersed in the equine world.
Today, the farm serves as a vital agricultural educational facility. Whether working with Quarter Horses, Mustangs, OTTBs, or the ponies that assist in teaching her youngest students, Ashley’s approach is rooted in building confidence and a deeper understanding of horse behavior.

Behind the Lens: Capturing the Spirit of Cypress Valley
Photographing Cypress Valley Farm was an exercise in capturing the quiet, powerful bond between horse and handler. As a photographer in the Ocala area, I’ve seen many facilities, but there is a distinct atmosphere here, one of patience and mutual respect. My goal with this session was to move beyond standard portraits and highlight the textures of farm life: the soft dust of the arena, the focused expression of a rider, and the soulful eyes of Ashley’s rescues.
Working with Ashley Culbreth allowed me to document the heart of her mission. We focused on natural lighting to reflect the authentic, hardworking nature of this 501c3 sanctuary.
